I support fiscal responsibility and greater citizen involvement in decision-making.
I've been attending the city budget planning meetings and I respect our current approach to fiscal responsibility. We take a long-term approach to our capital improvement plans, so that there aren't surprises in your tax bill. We should also explore other possible options for property assessments to ensure equitable treatment across the city.
I’ve seen how decisions get made by our city council and I’d like to see it be more inclusive. The different committees and commissions that support our council need to be given more voice, and encouraged to reach out for even greater citizen input. These groups allow for grassroots input and involvement and are just one point toward greater transparency and access that I will advocate for on the city council.
I also want to find ways to build upon the current communication from the city to residents on what's happening around town. I have heard some concerns about access to city data and we need to make sure what's public is accessible, without adding a burden to our city staff.
